The University of Alabama’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Screwtape” September 20th – 26th in the Allen Bales Theatre on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District. Nightly performances are at 7:30pm Monday through Saturday with a matinee performance on Sunday at 2pm.Tickets can be purchased at the Theatre & Dance Box Office in Rowand-Johnson Hall between the hours of 12pm and 5pm, or by calling (205) 348-3400. “Screwtape”, a play by James Forsyth based on the C.S. Lewis classic, The Screwtape Letters, tells the story of Screwtape, a senior devil who has been assigned to observe and guide a junior fiend, his nephew Wormwood. Wormwood's first assignment is to seize the soul of Mike, a young engineer trying to make his way in the world. Despite his love for a young girl, Mike is facing terrible danger as Screwtape’s advice to Wormwood targets the human’s shortcomings. As a devilish dramatic contest develops, thrashed out in brilliant low-level comedy, “Screwtape” offers a nail-bitingly close decision and lessons about heaven, hell, humanity, and religion are revealed in a dazzling resolution.
